The artist gives twenty-five thousand pounds award winnings to grassroots live spaces
The star has donated the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound honor cash to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to save the United Kingdom's grassroots music venues.
Fender was awarded the prize on 16 October as his third album People Watching was named the best record of the last 12 months.
The musician has decided to hand the money over to the trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role grassroots venues fulfilled in his beginning days.
"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said the artist. "These locations are legendary, but they are in difficulty."
Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – roughly 16% of the entire UK sector.
In the last year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by including a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports smaller concert halls.
Fender also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to help 38 small stages across the UK.
These funds supported venues that were confronting imminent closure due to issues caused by flooding, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, court cases and sound issues.
Additional spaces received monetary aid in modernizing amenities and gear that positively impacted musicians and fans.
"The idea that money from concerts in major spaces supports the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just common sense," the star has commented.
Fender is far from the only musician to give his honor prize money to charitable organizations.
When Pulp earned the trophy in the year 1996 for their album Different Class, vocalist the singer declared that the band would contribute their cash to the organization the charity.
That year, musician she split her prize across multiple good causes, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.
"And I gave a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required updated gear," she shared with a publication.
Previously, they donated their prize money to the youth organization that supported their act, as well as other local music groups.
And winners that year they donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the condition.
"The victory was quite enough," said singer the singer. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't need the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning affected another person's life."
In the past week, the trust revealed it had protected a couple of local spots in the South East, by bringing them into local control.
The first in Southampton and the other in the city were purchased under the community ownership initiative, which is supported by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who acquire "shares" in the properties.
